What is literacy-play?
Children don't stop playing in order to become readers and writers.
They become readers and writers through play.
When children build a fort and make a sign that says "Keep Out," they're composing.
When they narrate a video, pretend to be a pilot, create a map, or tell a story with toy animals, they're using language, symbols, and imagination to make meaning.
That's literacy.
And it's play.
Literacy-play is the belief that children develop literacy through curiosity, movement, storytelling, conversation, exploration, and joyful engagement with the world.
